|
Kim James recently retired after a full career in professional ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church in Colorado and Utah. She has devoted her life to servant leadership that cares for the whole person. She most recently served as pastor of Ogden First United Methodist Church, 2013-2025. During her years in Ogden, Kim has learned about the values, hopes, and needs of Utah residents. She has become well-acquainted with the resources, organizations, and opportunities that help. She has also observed the obstacles, challenges, and frustrations that hinder the lives of Utahns. She is now well prepared to represent the people of House District 8 in the Utah Legislature and advocate for the changes that are needed.
Kim earned a BA degree in Philosophy & Religion from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho; a Master in Religious Education degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri; and a Master of Divinity degree from The Iliff School of Theology in Denver. Kim is curious, reads and listens to lots of news, and is constantly and eagerly learning new things. Forty years of serving churches in large and medium cities, in a rural agricultural community, in a union stronghold, and in the Utah culture of religion and recreation has widened Kim's perspective. Kim has grieved the death of her parents and husband. Kim is also the parent of internationally-adopted children. Through her life experiences, Kim has observed the variety and complexity of human situations that defy simple categorizations. As a follower of Jesus, Kim believes that public policy must include compassion, healing, and grace, as well as clarity, effectiveness, and vision. In her retirement, Kim has enjoyed hiking on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail just above her house on Ogden's East Bench, worshiping in a number of different churches in the Ogden area, and spending time with her new grandson. Because she is retired, she has the time required to be an effective and faithful representative for the people of House District 8. See more about Kim in her policy perspectives. |
